RE: Suggestions from a Dying Breed of Roleplayer
I'd be happy to come back and start, but I dare you to name 15 people that would stay with the nation and help it not in times of need, but in times of abundant blessings. When everything is fine and dandy and nothing is wrong is when things fell apart, as it did in Cerantia. After the Griefer Plague (rp thingy with me and Tristy) ended, everything was fine. After Pavja announced that he was leaving, then everything was even more fine - as I had had a few run-ins with the guild (good rp-ers, surprizingly, once I cought one) and when their leader left, it was a weight off my shoulders. Then, Tristy, being the good-hearted evil guy that he is, donated over 200 gold to Cerantia, so we were set for a long time, to the point where it still 'exists' today on the server, and will continue to exist probobly till the end of the year. So, basically, Cerantia had nothing wrong. And that was everything wrong. There was nothing for people to work against to avoid calamity. That was the problem. People weren't happy with day-to-day roleplay, acting out the characters life.

Edit: Well, turns out there's only 30 gold in the town now... Don't know how that happened.

Because what I think is making most people not want to roleplay is that it's too much work.
But if you already have a template set up for you, you just have to create your character, and anyone roleplaying with you will know who you are and how to make the most of the experience.
It will also hopefully encourage people to create their own characters, and by doing so, try roleplaying with the other members of the server.

However, I find that roleplaying events is what is needed most. Most people are far far away from where all the other people are, and as such would not want to walk 20 minutes, in Minecraft, which is the most tedious thing to do ever, just to roleplay for 20 minutes and then get interrupted because you already wasted all the time you had.
They would also have something to look forward to, something to make their roleplaying addiction bubble up to the surface.

Roleplaying very rarely is about the action you take in a game, but more about how you take that action. Will you put forth an epic poem of how the rake cut through the flowing wheat. Or will you just mine dat gold, whit mah nuew pikax.

Your on a roll.
