Text Fighting: For Dummies

I have a prison. It was funny Eliza traped herself in there while we were under lock down and high alert. That was some fun RPing i got to do there

The biggest issue I have found with text fighting is the matter of resolving it. At least with a game system things are well defined and the winner is clear, but when it's all text, you have to rust the other person to be reasonable with their character. In my experience, that has happened twice, which is why I gave it up.
You have to leave every action's result open to the other party for resolution, and be reasonable with everything you do. Not difficult by definition, but some fights only seem to depend on who has the bigger ego as things devolve into playground pretend where one/both of the participants are that kid who dodge everything and get mad when they miss.

Not that I don't trust this community with it, but the temptation to sprinkle in some powergaming is always there.
