The whole point about updating to Kiwike 3.0, if thats what you mean, is to get the new features that are being implemented into the game quite soon.
Such as new biomes, Map generation, and other that have yet to be announced.
This will only be available to maps created after the patch is put in.
I do believe Yotta said we we are to change to a new map, whenever that is, he may making a "Creative World".
It includes some of the buildings from this map, but will not be of use to you in the new world.

Now to DARK.
Not every server is going to restart due to 1.8 coming out.
For all we know, it may or may not have the new biomes in it.
Notch was planning on 1.7, but that didn't happen.
Plus many creative servers wouldn't dare restart and lose everything.
Oh, and the height limit has nothing to do with the map, old and new will have the same height limit.

I know 3.0 will happen soon, but your words where to say that as soon as 1.8 came out we would have to make a new map and go to 3.0, incorrect.
