Another reason for a map reset is because of the 1.8 update itself. With Minecraft 1.8, we get Adventure Mode. Dungeons, NPCs, new mobs, and probably a lot more. In order for us to find that stuff in our current map we'd have to venture out into undiscovered, ungenerated territory. This causes a big load on the server's CPU and RAM and, in turn, will crash the server more periodically.

I copyed that from a random server seeeeeeeeeee alot of servers are doing a map reset.

Actually it doesn't work like that, the map is already generated, The map has bounderies and can't generate any new land.
Everything in the bounderies will stay frozen in time from patch 1.3.
