Christmas build
Well I asked for nothing but money this Christmas. With the money i plan on building a new computer. I'm planning on a range of $400-$600 i managed to make one online for $597.92
The parts are
Motherboard- Biostar A870 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6 g/bs ATX AMD Motherboard
Proccesor- AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition Deneb 3.5 ghz Quad core
Memory- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8 Gb
Case- Broadway Com Corp R-800
Graphics- SPARKLE SXT5202048S3LNM GeForce GT 520 (Fermi) 2GB 64-bit
power supply- Antec EarthWatts Green EA-430D Green 430W Continuous power
Dvd Drive- LITE-ON Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM DVD-ROM Drive Model IHDP11808
Hard drive- Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s

Any suggestions on how to bring the price down a bit? Or any idea if all the sockets and such seem to line up?

RE: Christmas build
I'm using Newegg too! Laugh

Ok so I don't know too much but definitely look to make sure the CPU has the same socket type as the motherboard. I checked and they are compatible. They are both AM3 sockets.
For some more reference I did some searches on reddit and found this basic guide just to kinda double-check. But definitely go to http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc, browse around and look at some common mistakes to make sure you don't do the same. And, if you want when your ready to buy all the parts, make a "[Build Ready]" post. You can put all your hardware in it and people will look at it and tell you if they see anything that isn't compatible. You'll also be able to change it to "[Build Help]" if you need help building, and other tags. Hope I helped and feel free to ask me any questions and if I don't know it I'll look it up. Tongue

and cell, in case he was watching the thread I just wanted him to know I was going to reply because I had to go eat dinner.

Ian, why do you keep reserving posts? Why not just type it and then post it?
As for the computer. I don't know much yet, i'm taking computer engineering next year. When I do that, i'll probably due what you did and ask for money to build one. As for the prices, just check a few sites. Newegg, Ebay, Amazon. Those usually vary in prices.
