RE: Plugin: Professions
I dislike this idea, its too limiting. Talents may be better or talents through use (more mining = better at mining)

RE: Plugin: Professions
I like the idea of Talents. Not professions to limit what you sell. I'm not sure how it would work out, but if your a miner your better at mining, and a lumberjack is better at cutting wood, etc. Not sure what the benefits would be.

This wouldn't work that good because someone could just do a lot of everything and get good at everything. Maybe a skill tree model would work better?

Or just leave minecraft like it is and let enchantments determine special abilities.

RE: Plugin: Professions
I feel as though this would turn the game into Runescape and lead to unreasonable advantages - especially considering you could just dig or mine a million blocks in a row to increase your talent easily with no real effort required.

Besides, as pavja said, enchantments, personal skill and RP will make up enough characteristic.

If all else fails just ask around for illegal client mods Wink Troll

RE: Plugin: Professions
We've discussed the possibility of adding things along the line.
And seeing the mixed feedback the community gives. We fur as my knowlegde goes have decided not to go along with adding professions or jobs into our system.

The reason for that is quite simple.
1: If you were no lumberjack you would have to run for maybe 10 minutes to a nearby mall to hope someone sells you a stack off wood so you can make torches, but if you are no miner. You also have to run to a different mall hope you have enough gold and buy some coal.
2: This would limit the way you experience minecraft and turn it into a linear boring experience, nobody wants to leave all the iron behind they found in a cave cause they cannot mine it, nor would someone feel to spend hours chopping down tree's in a row cause that's how they make money.

Now about profession, i start to think about things like MCMMO (http://mcmmo.wikia.com/wiki/McMMO_Wiki)
This also has several disadvantages alto it does allow players who spend more time into a particular activity to get more reward out of what they are doing.

This could easily inflate the market by getting double drops from example gold or diamond from the mining skill.

In more warlike situations this will also leave new players at a disadvantage cause of the perks older people who spend more time have over these new players. As always this is my personal view about this and it might not be shared in this way by all the staff until a proper discussion has been had about it in the Moderator forums but this is how i think the moderators and admins feel when seeing previous discussions about this

RE: Plugin: Professions
We're going for an open way of RP, nothing like Lord of the Crap. A fine instance of this is our freedom to choose the race of our characters.

Adding professions is going to make thing very restricted, the way mentioned in the first post at least.

RE: Plugin: Professions
Jesse's Minecraft server has a profession system that would work fairly well.

Basically, you earn money by doing whatever your profession is about. If you're a miner, you earn money for mining. And so forth.

RE: Plugin: Professions
No, that's not what I meant, Naam.

A miner could go around chopping trees, and a lumberjack could do his share of mining. All I'm limiting is personal trade, so that we have a more immerse economy.

Jesus Christ, I'm even a communist in Minecraft!

RE: Plugin: Professions
It's 'k Guthrie. Communism is the true way.

Anyways, I think that limiting players in such a way is bad for server health. The economy should be left open for the public and not be restricted by server rules and/or mods.
