RE: Three year anniversary!
It seems like there is a consensus as to how a new server should be constructed if it is started (correct me if I am wrong): Small world, present but not strict RP/lore, and territories to make the world more interesting. I agree with this formula too.

Also, speaking to the small world conversation, I think the world size should be even less than 2000 x 2000. Like Yotta mentioned, it should be small enough that towns are no more than a few hundred blocks from each other. It doesn't matter much how many people are on a server at once if none of them interact in-game. If you have a server that averages 100+ people at any moment, but the world is 50,000 x 50,000, the server will feel empty because everyone is so spread out no one can interact with other players. On the other side of the spectrum, if you have a server that averages no more than 5 people at any moment, but the world is 500 x 500 blocks, the world might even seem crowded because the density of players is much higher.

While a larger world has some benefits (such as having more to explore), I think the benefit of a more densely populated world outweigh those because it will make the server feel more active (and therefore more fun), even if it isn't. In my opinion, I think something in the range of a 1000 x 1000 world for ~10 players/day would be a good size, but that is just speculation.

1500x1500 or 2000x2000 I think would be better, if you're looking at a map that is just 1000x1000 then the furthest you can go in any direction from the spawn is 500 blocks. That literally takes 3-4 minutes to walk. Since we are talking towns and nations, nations being the big thing here, I think it should be atleast 750ish so you can have more room to build a few towns in your area versus building two towns for your nation and being spread across one side of the world.

That doesn't give much room for new people with the ideas of creating their own nation and people creating nomad towns (which I think need a come back, it gave people who didn't want to be affiliated in any nations the opportunity to still be part of a community).

RE: Three year anniversary!
I'm with BVC on just about everything he's stated. The size... well, I'm not exactly well versed in how large a server should be. 1,000 seems small to me, 2,000 seems decent. I remember back in 1.5 or whatever the transition was called, Blackrock was within sight of Bamboo City and we had about a max of 12 or so people on at a time, and other times it was empty; I think whatever size 1.5 was should be good, whatever size it was.

Also, I think that nomad towns should be brought back as well, although that's not necessarilly the largest thing that should be done. This should be a bare-bones, basic, ready-to-adapt server that changes based on whatever new (or old) members return.

asdf, as it stands, the only people I'm seeing interested in this new server are me, you, Gecko, seth, bvc, giratina, maybe borntorule, squig, and Crazy, and perhaps a few people on Steam that I've been talking to. That's not exactly a whole lot. People will come if we advertise correctly and make a good environment for them, but that's not exactly going to bring a couple faction's worth of people in a short time. I'd say keep it simple, keep it safe. If people want a larger area, we can always expand the map as-needed - that's what we did in 2.0 and it worked out well enough.

I'd love to play, and I think if we can get in touch with the old kiwike members, they will join as well. I like the idea of the world being small, but bvc's idea of size is a little on the small side. I think that people would still manage to run into each other if it was 1500x1500 or if we can get alot more people to join, 2000x2000.

RE: Three year anniversary!
I think 2000x2000 to start with is far from unreasonable, especially considering that horses are in the game now, so that distance can be crossed VERY fast.

And unrelated, I've got some people who would be interested, but I'd need, ya know, something to actually SHOW them before I invite them.

More player input is always a good thing. whether or not yotta acts on it is his choice, to act on the communities wants and needs or to play it safe and stick with the same stuff that will last for a month. Kiwike needs to be able to adapt to the player base.

Exactly. But ultimately, it's Yotta's decision. He pays the bills, last I checked - unless we want to start crowdfunding it from all of us.

RE: Three year anniversary!
The regulations for towns need to be set pretty high, even if the server starts small. If you have to have 5 people to create a town on the server it really helps people want to meet everyone who joins the server and get them to join their cause.

Once those new people get into a town and are apart of ones community its a lot easier to get addicted to the server.

1.5 with Bamboo City was amazing, all vanhilla, it was the perfect example for a town made to be grown into. I would love to see that beauty again.

However, 1.5 didn't have THAT many people on it. Infact most of the people on there lived Bamboo City, and all of them were just from 1.0. There was no new players joining besides friends of friends. If Yotta gives somebody else the ability to run all the advertising, someone who will put a lot of time into it, then there is possibility that we can get a larger community pretty fast (over a few months).

There should also be a minecraft railroad pluggin so we can remake the railroad like in 2.0. It's a lot of work but if you have a few large nations (talking mid to later game here) it creates HUGE social and political discussions amongst players. You can argue there are horses now and nether is so much faster, which is true, but even towards the end of 2.0 I still used those railroads VERY frequently. Nether railways are always ugly and messy.
